TIME Dissects Celebrity Shoe Endorsements

Following the recent signings of Drake to Jordan Brand and Kanye West to adidas, TIME has taken a closer look at the phenomenon of celebrity sneaker endorsements. Using insights from Matt Powell, an analyst at SportsOneSource, the article contrasts the differences between athlete and celebrity endorsements, the numbers involved, and how West’s partnership with adidas might play out. Some celebrity shoes have been both commercial and marketing successes in the past. When Jay Z released his S. Carter sneaker line in 2003 through Reebok, it became the fastest selling shoe ever for the company. But it can be challenging for celebrities to create a line that has the year-after-year success of athlete-branded shoes. Powell says the S. Carter line declined in popularity after its initial hype, and he can see the same happening to a mass-produced Kanye shoe. “It will be interesting whether Adidas maintains the same kind of control over the quantities,” he says. “My gut is if they made a lot of Kanye West shoes, they’re going to find that the demand goes way down.”

The person said that the details have not been finalized, but it is unlikely that Ferrell will break from his Ron Burgundy character. Ferrell recently appeared in character on TBS’ “Conan” to promote Burgundy’s new book, and to insult the Dodge Durango — the very truck that the 1970s journalist has been hawking in 30-second increments on TV.

Forbes Names Highest Paid Musicians of 2013

With 2013 coming towards an end, Forbes has released their annual listing of the year’s highest paid musicians. It comes as no surprise that Madonna takes the pole position for highest earning musician, having been announced as the highest paid overall celebrity earlier this year when her ‘MDNA tour’ and other business endeavors grossed over $305 million USD, pushing her so far ahead that Lady Gaga‘s second position spot at a paltry $80 million USD. Following closely is Bon Jovi at $79 million USD, ousting the likes of Kanye West and Beyonce, while other familiar names such as Rihanna, Dr. Dre and Jay-Z gained notable mention. Reebok is gearing up to release Shaq Attack in a new colorway that pays homage to Shaq’s alma mater, LSU. Using the school’s official colors of purple and yellow, the shoe offers up a textured purple leather upper with yellow accents, purple suede overlays, and a yellow and purple tiger stripe pattern around the collar. The colors extend down to the midsole and outsole in a combination of purple, yellow and white. The “LSU” colorway will be available starting February 14 of next year at Reebok’s online store.
